Peruvian precious metals producer Hochschild Mining has spent $2 million to acquire a stake in a groundbreaking rare earth production project in southern Chile.

Private company Biolantanidos found about 13,000 tons of rare earth oxides in ionic clay near the city of Concepcion, 500 kilometers south of Santiago.
